The English Defence League – an organisation of racist thugs with links to the Nazi BNP – and its counterpart, the Welsh Defence League, are planning demonstrations to whip up anti-muslim racist hatred in Newcastle and Cardiff.
UAF is organising to oppose the EDL/WDL in both cities.
>> NEWCASTLE – Saturday 29 May
Assemble 12 noon – Barrack Road, by St James Park. We are asking UAF groups and anti-fascists to start organising transport now from the North East of England, Yorkshire and Scotland to get to Newcastle on the day.
>> CARDIFF – Saturday 5 June
Counter-protest against the WDL assembles at 11am, Roald Dahl Plass/Oval Basin (next to the Wales Millennium Centre), Cardiff Bay. There will be a march and rally at City Hall.
We are asking UAF groups and anti-fascists from Wales and the South West of England to mobilise for this.
Don’t let the EDL/WDL divide our communities!
The EDL and its Welsh equivalent have targeted Muslims and mosques, whipping up hatred, division and violence where they has been allowed to march. EDL supporters stabbed a man in the evening after the EDL demonstration in Bolton in March. EDL supporters ran riot in Stoke-on-Trent earlier this year, attacking the local Asian community and police.
EDL supporters have paraded their violence on YouTube and have been caught on camera giving Nazi salutes during their rallies and marches.
