City councillors back ‘We are Bradford’ event against EDL

UPDATED: Eight Bradford councillors have given their backing to the We are Bradford event to oppose the racist English Defence League on Saturday 28 August.

Deputy lord mayor Mohammed Jamil and councillors Naveeda Ikram, Abid Hussain, Sajawal Hussain, Qasim Khan, Rizwan Malik, Martin John Love and Hawarun Hussain are all backing the city centre event.

Balu Lad, chair of Bradford’s South Asian Forum, has also signed up in support.

‘We are Bradford’ will celebrate our multicultural society and show our opposition to the English Defence League – an organisation of racist thugs with links to the British National Party and other fascist groups.

Event details

The We are Bradford celebration of unity and our multicultural society takes place on Saturday 28 August. Assemble: 12 noon at Exchange Square, Drake Street, Bradford city centre. People using public transport should travel in via the Bradford Interchange.
