TUC fringe kicks off UAF rallies round the country

A fringe meeting at this week’s TUC annual congress in Manchester will be the first in a series of major UAF rallies and public meetings around the country.

The UAF fringe meeting ‘After the elections: stopping the BNP and EDL’ on Monday 13 September will be addressed by speaers Sarah Veale (TUC head of equality and employment relations), Billy Hayes (CWU general secretary), Matt Wrack (FBU general secretary), Mark Serwotka (PCS general secretary), Glyn Ford (former MEP and lifelong antifascist) and Weyman Bennett (UAF joint secretary).

It will be chaired by UAF joint secretary Sabby Dhalu and starts at 6pm in the Main Hall, Mechanics Centre, 103 Princess Street, Manchester M1 6DD. >> Download a leaflet

There will also be a fringe meeting at the Labour Party conference on Manchester on 26 September.


UAF will be staging a series of rallies and public meetings to build for the national demo against racism, fascism and Islamophobia on Saturday 6 November.

Here are the initial dates – we will be adding more meetings shortly.

South London – 30 September, Lambeth Town Hall, Brixton Hill, London SW2 1RW. With Ken Livingstone (UAF chair and former Mayor of London), Weyman Bennett and Sabby Dhalu
Birmingham – 16 October, Anti-racism and resistance in the West Midlands, 2:30pm. African-Caribbean Millennium Centre, 339 Dudley Rd Birmingham B1S4HB
With Brian Travers from UB40, Jack Dromey Labour MP for Erdington, Maxi Hayles from BRAMU, Weyman Bennett, UAF Joint Secretary. Chaired by Birmingham NUT.
Stoke – Monday 18 October, 7pm at the Ashley Theatre. Organised by North Staffordshire Campaign Against Racism and Fascism.
North London – Monday 25 October 7pm, Tottenham Chances, 399 High Road, Tottenham, London N17 6QN
Cambridge – 2 November, 7.30 pm – 9pm, CB2s, Norfolk Street, Cambridge, CB1 2LD. Followed by an acoustic gig hosted by Love Music Hate Racism
Wales – No to racism, fascism and Islamophobia, 6pm Thursday, 14 October CF10 Cafe, Cardiff University Students Union. Speakers: Martin Smith (Love Music Hate Racism), Belinda Robertson (Union Union Equalities Officer), Vaughan Gething (Labour AM Candidate, Cardiff South), Dr. Muhammad Mansur Ali (Centre for the Study of Islam in the UK)
