Stoke-on-Trent city council is Nazi-free after BNP wipeout

The fascist British National Party has been wiped out on Stoke-on-Trent city council, where it held five seats until the elections.

Overwhelmingly rejected

Voters have overwhelmingly rejected the party in all nine council seats where it had candidates, booting out all its existing councillors. The white supremacist England First Party, which stood in another six wards, also failed to come anywhere near taking a seat.

This follows the BNP’s obliteration in Barking and Dagenham council last year, when it lost all 12 of its councillors. It is another humilating defeat for the fascists.

The BNP used to describe Stoke as the “jewel in the crown” for them. Now they have been kicked off the council completely.

Activists from UAF and the North Staffs Campaign Against Racism and Fascism are celebrating their success after hard campaigning, distributing an average of 1,000 anti-BNP leaflets a day, every day of the campaign.

The Stop the BNP leaflets clearly exposed the BNP as Nazis and argued against anti-Muslim racism, which both the BNP and the racist street thugs of the English Defence League seek to whip up.

The BNP’s crushing defeat at the polls shows the majority of people in Stoke don’t want the racists and fascists – and that campaigning can push the Nazis back, even in areas they have considered strongholds.
