Congratulations and thanks to UAF member Rachel, who successfully ran the Cambridge Half Marathon in only just over two hours – and raised more than £500 for UAF!
It’s a great effort that has brought us much needed funds as we campaign against the British National Party and other fascists in the May elections and build the 5 May national demo against the English Defence League in Luton.
Rachel completed her gruelling run on 11 March, after months of training. She says:
It was a good race: the sunny weather and my dedicated supporters cheered me on to complete the 13.1 miles in just under 2 hours, 6 minutes (exact time: 2:05:39).
The thought that I was raising money for UAF against the fascist and racist scum of the EDL and BNP helped me to overcome sore feet and just keep on going.
I’m used to training on a mixture of grass and road so the all-road surface was quite heavy-going after a while. Needless to say then, I was a little surprised to see my end time being less than the 2 hrs 15mins I envisaged (or the 2 hrs 30 I dreaded!) but knowing all my hard work in training had paid off was a great bonus.
I would definitely try and raise money for UAF like this once more – for the full marathon next time! – but in the meantime all the support people have so far contributed is massively appreciated.
It’s not too late though to give more so please give generously as the hard work of UAF is needed now as much as ever as we go through protracted economic recession and the horrors of the rising spectre of fascism across the rest of Europe.
We are still totting up the final amount that Rachel raised – donations are still coming in online and by cash and cheque. And you can use the PayPal button to donate by craedit or debit card, if you haven’t already.
Thanks to all those who donated, incuding the most recent online donors:
