Stoke roars against racism!

No automatic alt text available.

Over 100 people joined a protest – at short notice – against a fascist rally in Stoke-on-Trent last Saturday.

The NorSCARF (North Staffordshire Campaign Against Racism and Fascism) protest, including members of Unite Against Fascism, countered a so-called ‘Rally Against Grooming’ organised by the fascist ‘Stoke Infidels’ group. This  was addressed by Britain First leaders Paul Golding and Jayda Fransen, and included in its ranks members of the EDL and other fascists.

NorSCARF’s protest involved local trades unionists, an excellent turn-out from Stoke’s Muslim community, and was attended by the two local MPs as well as the leader of the Labour Group on the council.

Supporters of Port Vale FC also clearly rejected the fascist protest, as they passed it by following the close of Port Vale’s home game.

Child sexual exploitation is a horrific crime which must be condemned – but it has nothing to do with race or religion, and it is clear that the fascists were trying to racialise this issue in order to further their own nazi agenda.  This was shown by some of the blatantly racist language used by the fascists, who also attempted to throw missiles at the anti-fascist protestors. Britain First leaders looked on and were clearly glad to be among like minded, fascist thugs.

NorSCARF held the counter-protest, following an excellent event called ROAR (Root Out All Racism) which included speakers from NorSCARF (who talked about their recent successful campaign to remove a Nazi flag from a local market), UAF, films remembering the Holocaust, a local poet and others.
