Keep Leeds fascist-free on July 7th

leeds demo 7.7

Unite Against Fascism and Leeds Stand Up To Racism is organising a major counter-demonstration to the racist Yorkshire Patriots group on Saturday 7th July.

The Yorkshire Patriots, who are made up of remnants of the English Defence League and other fascist organisations, are attempting to rally in Leeds in support of Tommy Robinson.

This latest provocation comes after 400 racists and fascists rampaged through Leeds on Friday 1st June, chanting ‘Muslims off our streets’. Days later, a mosque and a gudwara in the Beeston area of the city were set alight.

Anti-racists organised a vigil in Beeston to protest the firebombing, with local Labour councillors, trade unionists and faith representatives giving speeches.

Tommy Robinson’s supporters and racist violence go hand-in-hand. Robinson was the leader of the English Defence League in 2010 when his followers went on the rampage in Stoke-on-Trent. Racists attacked non-white people and chanted ‘If you hate all pakis clap your hands’. The night before, the words ‘Islam scum’ were daubed on a nearby mosque.

Unite Against Fascism, Leeds Stand Up To Racism, Unite the Union, Yorkshire & the Humber TUC, local Labour and Green Party activists and many trade unions are coming together on July 7th to say no to the growth of the far-right in Britain and lay down a redline against the fascists who want to bring division and terror into our communities.
